Frequently Asked Questions
Everything first-time visitors and new residents need to know
How do I apply for a room at Pfaffenhof?
To apply for a room, contact VSSW (Vereinigung Stuttgarter Studentenwohnheime e.V.) directly — the official landlord and sole point of contact for room applications. You can apply online at vssw.de or by email at info@vssw.de. Pfaffenhof Tutorien e.V. has no involvement in the allocation process.
Who manages day-to-day life at Pfaffenhof?
Day-to-day life is run by Pfaffenhof Tutorien e.V., the student association that organises events, maintains communal spaces, manages the sauna and handles subletting. VSSW, as the official landlord, remains responsible for leases, rent collection and repairs.
How does sauna booking work?
To book the sauna, use the booking tool on this website. Pick a free slot, enter your details, and you will receive a confirmation email with a 6-digit one-time code (OTP). Bring this code with you to gain entry.
Can I sublet my room?
Subletting is possible provided the subtenant is an enrolled student and VSSW has given written consent. The process runs through the Housing Department (Wohnungsreferat) at wore@pfaffenhof.net. The Sublet page has all the details.
What communal facilities are available to residents?
Shared facilities include: the sauna (book online), a communal/party room, a barbecue area, a workshop and bicycle storage — all managed by Pfaffenhof Tutorien e.V.
Who do I contact if something in my room or apartment is broken?
For maintenance issues, contact the VSSW caretaker directly. Lease or rent questions can be directed to VSSW at info@vssw.de or +49 (0)711 250855-51 — office hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 13:00–15:00.
Is Pfaffenhof only for students of the University of Stuttgart?
VSSW mainly caters to students at the University of Stuttgart, though students from other universities in the Stuttgart area may also be eligible. Current admission requirements are listed on vssw.de.
Where can I do my laundry?
Both buildings have shared washing machines and dryers. A small fee applies and is paid by contactless bank card.
What do I do if I lose my key or get locked out?
Contact the VSSW caretaker during office hours (Tue & Thu 13:00–15:00). Keep in mind that you are responsible for any lock replacement costs.
Who keeps the communal areas clean?
Please leave shared areas — kitchens, bathrooms and hallways — clean after every use. The cleaning service takes care of floors and bathrooms; keeping surfaces and furniture tidy is down to residents.
How do I get a housing provider certificate (Wohnungsgeberbescheinigung)?
Main tenants receive their Wohnungsgeberbescheinigung from the VSSW caretaker on the day they move in. Subtenants should request it from the Housing Department at wore@pfaffenhof.net.
What do I do in an emergency outside office hours?
An emergency line is available 24 hours a day at +49 (0)7032 954294-0. A list of all key contacts is also posted in the entrance area of your building.
I need proof of accommodation for the immigration office. Who can help?
The VSSW caretaker can prepare this document during office hours. If you are a subtenant, get in touch with the Housing Department at wore@pfaffenhof.net.
Where can I park my bicycle?
You can leave your bike in the outdoor designated parking areas or in the indoor bicycle storage in your building.
Are there quiet hours in the residence?
Quiet hours are in place daily from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am. Please keep noise down during these hours to respect your neighbours.
Am I allowed to smoke in my room?
Smoking is not allowed anywhere inside the buildings. Designated smoking spots are set up outside each residence.
